How does DOTNET High-Speed work?
DOTNET High-Speed speeds up the delivery of Web pages in three ways:

  • Compression —DOTNET High-Speed delivers text and graphics more efficiently, using a proprietary compression technology that significantly reduces the size of Web pages and page elements sent to your browser.
  • Caching —DOTNET High-Speed intelligently retains and re-uses Web pages and page elements that have previously been sent to your PC. That's why the longer DOTNET High-Speed is in use on your PC, the faster your Web pages will load.
  • Persistent Connections —DOTNET High-Speed uses proprietary techniques to carefully manage and optimize the communication between your modem and our network of servers through a persistent connection.

How fast is DOTNET High-Speed?
DOTNET High-Speed lets you browse the Web up to five times faster than you can with a standard dial-up connection. DOTNET High-Speed uses intelligent caching.  That's why the longer DOTNET High-Speed is in use on your PC, the faster your Web pages will load. **

How does DOTNET High-Speed compare with DSL or cable modem access?
DOTNET High-Speed is a tool that's designed to significantly enhance Web access over low-speed (less than 200Kbps) connections. DSL and cable are broadband technologies, which mean they provide faster service than the enhanced dial-up service DOTNET High-Speed brings you. However, DOTNET High-Speed allows you to surf faster using your existing dial-up, and costs significantly less money than broadband technologies.

Does everything on my computer move faster? What kind of Web content does DOTNET High-Speed speed up?
DOTNET High-Speed improves delivery speeds for everything that's Web-based. You'll see an improvement in load times for:

  • All text, HTML, markup, and JavaScript
  • Most graphics and photos—including JPEG and GIF files
  • Most banner ads—including animated GIF images and Macromedia Flash content
  • All browser-based emails (such as DOTNET Webmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.)
  • All emails that contain images, even when you view them in an email program such as Outlook Express or Netscape Mail on your computer (rather than Web Mail)
  • MP3 files, executables, and other files (when downloaded using your Web browser)

The speed of your dial-up service will stay the same when it comes to:

  • Streaming media, audio, and video files
  • Secure pages—like the ones used for online banking and shopping
  • Files downloaded using FTP (rather than your browser)

Does DOTNET High-Speed speed up the retrieval and delivery of email?
DOTNET High-Speed speeds up Web-based email programs (like DOTNET Web Mail). When it comes to non-Web-based email programs (like Outlook), you'll notice a difference when you open an email that contains GIF files, JPEG files, and Flash graphics. DOTNET High-Speed speeds up images only when they are embedded in HTML.

Does DOTNET High-Speed work with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)?
VPNs provide remote users with secure access to corporate Intranets. VPN traffic is usually encrypted. For this reason, DOTNET High-Speed does not speed up Web pages accessed over VPNs. However, DOTNET High-Speed automatically allows non-accelerated surfing of VPN pages. When DOTNET High-Speed is accessing VPN pages, a yellow triangle (similar to a yield sign) appears in the taskbar to let you know that the service is temporarily unavailable.

How can I tell that DOTNET High-Speed is properly installed?
If DOTNET High-Speed is installed on your computer, you'll see a small blue icon with 3 interlocking circles in the Windows taskbar area near your system clock.
