Howto: Searching for Files by Myrddin
If you do not know what version of Windows you have, go here.
Windows XP
- Click the [Start] button, in the bottom left corner of your screen. You do not have to close anything first.
- Select Search from the menu, near the bottom.

Type the name of the file you wish to search for. Use the '*' character to match parts of a file. Examples:
- Report*.doc
- *.mp3
- beatles
- Click [Search] and wait for the search to perform.
Windows 95, 98, or ME
- Click the [Start] button, in the bottom left corner of your screen. You do not have to close anything first.
- Select Find->Files or Folders from the menu, near the bottom.

Type the name of the file you wish to search for. Use the '*' character to match parts of a file. Examples:
- Report*.doc
- *.mp3
- beatles
- In the Where dropdown box below, select 'Local Hard Drives', or if that is not available, select the 'C:' drive.
- Click [Find Now] and wait for the search to perform.
Windows 2000
- Click the [Start] button, in the bottom left corner of your screen. You do not have to close anything first.
- Select Search->Files or Folders from the menu, near the bottom.

Type the name of the file you wish to search for. Use the '*' character to match parts of a file. Examples:
- Report*.doc
- *.mp3
- beatles
- In the Where dropdown box below, select 'Local Hard Drives'.
- Click [Find Now] and wait for the search to perform.
